CALIFORNIA CENTRAL COAST
Two hundred miles north of Los Angeles, stretching along the Pacific Ocean, is the Central California Coast Region—a piece of paradise that for me reflects 'Classic California.' Located between Santa Barbara and Monterey, you’ll find the long sandy beaches of Pismo Beach, the Danish Village of Solvang, Hearst Castle, over 70 wineries and the Chumash Casino. It makes for the perfect weekend getaway.
PISMO BEACH was incorporated in 1951—a natural for a tourist destination with long white sand beaches, perfect weather and spectacular views. Pismo boasts over 30 restaurants and more than 50 motels, hotels, and RV parks. You can enjoy bicycling, golfing, hiking, nature walks, water sports, Hummer adventure tours and horseback riding, right on the beach. Pismo also makes a wonderful home base for exploring the Central Coast’s other attractions.
SOLVANG (Danish for "sunny field") was founded in 1911 by a small group of Danish settlers, escaping the harsh Midwestern winters. Located by the historic Santa Inés Mission (circa 1804), restaurants, shops and hotels soon appeared, reflecting Solvang’s Danish architectural and gastronomic heritage. Today Solvang is a major tourist Mecca, but kept real by its many Danish- American residents. Danish Days, celebrated annually in September, features folk dancing, music, parades, displays and food.
