LOW TESTOSTERONE

Help for those who have lost their sex drive and want it back

Millions of men may feel less energetic and less sexual than they’d like because of a little-known medical condition called hypogonadism, also called “low testosterone,” or “Low T.” It’s caused by below-normal levels of the male hormone, testosterone. One recent study suggests that about 13 million men in the U.S. alone have this condition— and only a fraction are being treated.

Fortunately, physicians may identify low t through the identification of symptoms and a blood test—and there are several ways to raise testosterone levels, which may relieve the symptoms of low testosterone.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone
Testosterone levels below 300 are usually considered below normal. Some men with Low T levels may begin to feel symptoms such as:
• Tiredness or loss of energy
• Low sexual interest
• Problems getting or maintaining an erection
• Depressed mood
• Decreased sense of well-being
• Muscle weakness
• Weight gain around the waist
• Reduced bone density
• Small or soft testicles

What Causes Low Testosterone?

Testosterone levels are controlled by the testicles and the brain. Sometimes testosterone levels fall because the testicles are impaired or damaged. Other times, low testosterone can result if the hormone control “switch” in the brain malfunctions.
